Accomplishments

- Reopened the East Cleveland Martin Luther King, Jr., Civic Center
As East Cleveland’s Interim mayor, Sandra Morgan prioritized community spaces by reopening the East Cleveland Civic Center, revitalizing a hub for community gatherings, public meetings, and programs for seniors and young people.
The center features:
- Silver Sneakers Exercise Program for Seniors
- Free Lunch Daily for Five to 18 year olds, sponsored by the Children Hunger Network and Greater Cleveland Food Bank
- A Football Clinic
- A Basketball Clinic
- Obtained Essential Funding for Infrastructure
Provided stewardship of over $20 million dollars in infrastructure development funds for new water and sewer pipes, paved roads, and street lights
- Made Efforts to Improve East Cleveland’s Air Quality and Create a Healthier Natural Environment
Obtained two grants to add more trees to the city
Trees filter air pollutants, reduce asthma triggers, and lower temperatures—which will prevent heat-related illnesses
Trees absorb carbon, manage stormwater runoff, and offer flood and extreme weather protection
Green spaces gather community members together, reduce crime, and make neighborhoods walkable and pleasant places to be
- Began to Rebuild and Create Partnerships with State and Regional Leaders
Reestablished partnerships with state and regional governments and corporate and non-profit organizations.
From day one of her 120 days as interim mayor, she began positioning East Cleveland to access untapped resources and opportunities.
